You can usually tell if your brakes are having problems by hearing a grinding noise when you apply the brakes, feeling almost no resistance as you push the pedal, or by seeing the red brake light on your dashboard. Usually, the grinding noises mean the pads are becoming worn and making metal to metal contact. You don't want to ignore that red light because what may seem minor could turn into a critical situation in which a total brake loss could happen and could lead to an accident.
